La Hacienda

La Hacienda

Barney and Olinda had blocked off some rooms at La Hacienda, where they were having their reception. I looked it up and found it was a small, locally owned motel, so I was a bit wary. The price was so cheap ($40/night) and the reception being in the same hotel was a big plus.

It turned out later it was also managed by Firman, one of the other groomsmen.

When we arrived, it turned out they were out of rooms with king beds. Well, they thought there was one left, and gave me the key (an actual key) to the room. When I arrived and started unlocking the door, someone inside started knocking on the window. They opened the door and asked what I was doing...

So after a return trip to the front desk, we ended up in a room with double beds next door. After settling in, I noticed the room didn't have an iron, so I called the front desk and it turned out they didn't have an iron either.

At this point, I was seriously considering checking out and heading to the Hampton Inn up the street, another hotel Barney and Olinda had blocked off some rooms in. I called there, but it turned out it would have just been cheaper to buy a travel iron than to move, and Benson didn't feel like going through the hassle.

It turned out the double beds weren't that bad after all, and the convenience did turn out to be worth it--I was able to change out of my tux and make it over to the post-party after the reception.

It also helped to realize that the three nights in La Hacienda was cheaper than one of the nights in our hotel in San Antonio.

We didn't arrive back from the bar until nearly 3am local time. That was the theme of this trip--late nights out, much later than us old fogies are used to nowadays. (Plus, I'm kind of sad because we didn't follow everyone to Taco Palenque after the bar, instead choosing to go to bed. After I discovered the wonders of Taco Palenque for my next lunch, I fell in love, and had it two more times during the trip.)
